THE BIG SWITCHOVER BEGINS 10PM MONDAY 22ND MARCH 2021

ree

As regular listeners will know, RRO is not fully in control of how we deliver our shows to you. Our DJs stream from their studio computers to shoutca.st (soon to be rebranded streamerr), who encode the stream and pass through to Centova (one of the largest internet radio hosts), who then broadcast to your player of choice.

Unfortunately, in recent months, Centova's size has been causing issues for our stream, with outages due to new server farm installations, and increasing complexities due to the scale of their operation. In effect, our player has been down more in the last 2 months than it has in the last 18 months combined. Sadly, we have no influence over Centova, and even Shoutca.st can only lob desperate emails at them to fix the problems.

Until now. Our partners at shoutca.st/streamerr have decided to create their own broadcast system, negating the need for Centova to be in our chain. This will give us more direct influence over the platform, and of course, more technical control for our broadcast partner over the service itself.

To that end, we will begin switching over to the new system immediately after the Doc's Blues Rock Show tonight (22/03/2021). We are hoping for minimal disruption, with DeePlay continuing as normal across all our devices for the rest of tonight and the morning, whilst we make certain webserver adjustments and changes.

To set expectations, DeePlay should remain on from 10pm tonight through tomorrow, but gradually, it will switch off across all devices except our web player. The first to go off will most likely be Alexa at some point tomorrow pm, followed by internet radios, the phone apps, then the radio directory players, with our web player being the last to go off before changing over to the new system.

If all goes to plan, the new web player should take over in an instant, with other devices gradually switching over throughout Wednesday. Alexa will take between 24 and 48 hours to update and some radio directories may take a week or so, but we'll keep you posted. The link changes to the apps and internet radios should be completed with an hour of the web player changes.

Both the Doc's Blues Rock Show on Monday evening and The Baron's Rock Show on Wednesday evening, will go ahead as announced- the latter however being dependent on the switchover going as planned.

The new player setup is only the first of several major updates coming in the next month. We will shortly be adding new features to the Forum chatrooms, a new magazine format, and, finally, the RRO shop!

Now, more than ever, it is time to: Join The Revolution.
