You're gonna need your throat lozenges for this one, plus your air mic, air guitars and possible air drums and bass lol. Hi fellow Minions, Ms Deed needs another few days to rest up yet, so there will be no Triple D show this Friday (oh noooooooooooooooooooooo!), but she'll be back as normal next week. She will be, otherwise we'll have a mini-rebellion on our hands lol.

Further to our recent announcement re the possible open air event for next August 31st, when we've looked at it, sadly our logistics say we can't do it- there wouldn't be enough staff in the immediate run up to make sure we could stay on top of it. Rest assured we will be doing it in 2020 (already at work on it!!), AND this does not mean we won't be having a get together.... so we are proud to present... THE CROSSFIRE RADIO 2019 ROCK TIL YOU DROP PARTY We've hired the function room at The Eastfield Arms in Athersley for the day (still Saturday Aug 31st) and we have it til midnight- AND some of the DJs will provide music and banter throughout. As we need to do our annual take over the world meet, please arrive from 4pm. The Eastfield Arms has a great menu that is very inexpensive and we will be taking pre-orders for dinner for around 7pm in the weeks before. They also have a very good selection of booze that is also very inexpensive! The event is FREE and there are local hotels nearby that are also cheap. Watch out for full details soon!!

16th September 2018 One of the things we always try to do at CFR is give you choice. That's why we offer more ways to listen to us than any other station and why we tried multiple platforms for listener interaction during shows. However, for the latter offerings it appears people were confused about what and when and how. Most of you will know that we were forced to close all our Facebook groups into one because a) FB announced they were going to start charging for groups and; b) of the months of FB stress they were causing to DJs during show time with their bad features and instability (as well as changing the way external links were captured inside FB posts- i.e. it gave FB Google Points but not us), but kept CFR Live & Deeplay open for those FB users who didn't want to move to our Forum. However, we always said that if the situation changed with FB we would revisit this decision. FB have now decided they will not charge for groups, and have increased reliability in FB in recent months. However, FB have also only half rolled out the Announcements feature to their users, so some of you can access our pinned posts and some of you can't. This particularly affected the Sunday Rock Show due to people's inability to locate the Request line. Following discussion on all this at our meeting yesterday we have decided to reopen our old FB Groups. And because of even better functionality in our Forum (eg hashtagging, direct reply to comment, picture captions and mosaics etc) we have decided to close our CrossChat app, now that our Forum has the same features. This will give you two choices for interaction during show time. The Forum, which you can log in using a specific CFR member profile, or your FB or Twitter profiles, and WHICH REMAIN OUR PRIMARY INTERACTION TOOL (for all the reasons stated above) and our old Facebook Groups. However, because the DJ needs to be focused on the music and because of some of the reasons above still being valid, we are changing the way the groups are used. There will be a single show-night post, similar to the way we do it in the Forum, for you to comment on, say hello, goodnight, post pics and chat to others etc, BUT YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLACE INDIVIDUAL POSTS. As we've said, sometimes having a million notifications pop up and try to get round all the posts (even when FB actually shows you all the posts, something that they are still having issues with) adds pressure to the DJ spoiling our fun on the night- which I think you will agree is highly important! The dates for the reopening of the FB groups will be week commencing SUNDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER WITH THE RETURN OF THE SUNDAY ROCK SHOW. In fact the SRS will be active from Tuesday 18th September with the post of the Request Line in the SRS group. All other shows this week will continue in the CFR Live group and in the Forum as per normal. Then as this week's shows progress, their old Groups will reopen in readiness for the shows starting week commencing 24th. Most of you will be unaffected by the re-opening of the groups as we didn't delete them so your membership is still active. Those of you who joined in the last 6 months will have to add yourselves to the show pages you listen to, but that is a two second job so we hope you won't feel too inconvenienced. There will also still be a CFR & Deeplay Group for general postings and specials/showcases interaction, and this will go live from Friday 21st September. The only group not being reopened is the TWS, as it makes sense to have the TWS & BRS in one group because they both are hosted by the same DJ and on the same day- and occasionally the two shows combine for all day special events. Thank you for your continued support- and your understanding of why we need to push on outside of our existing listener base and grow the station (which we cannot do in Facebook). This is positively and absolutely the last time we will be changing our interaction tools strategy. Probably. ;)

This week, the EU forced through a directive that would make Google, Facebook, Youtube etc pay every time a news item was shared on their sites, or a film, pop or tv video, video clip or trailer, or a recording that contained any music. The Directive was bought by the big music and news firms funding directly MEPs and certain EU initiatives, and has severe consequences for everyone not a large music publisher or news outlet. HOW THIS AFFECTS YOU!!!! The effect of this is devastating to small, independent news outlets and music publishers, who rely on portal sites to get their material out, as when Spain passed this law unilaterally, Google et al simply closed their portal sites so that they would not have to pay. Now, if you're thinking that this doesn't involve you, you are WRONG. Got a wedding video you want to post on Youtube or Facebook etc with the bride and groom doing their first dance to Bryan Adams? It is likely to be blocked because FB or Google would be charged for "publishing" the song. Same would be true of holidays, gigs, parties, christenings and so on. Want to "share" a news item about how evil the EU are? Can't cos Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc would have to pay the news agency you are sharing from. Want to share the movie trailer for Transformers 56? Can't, cos Google or FB or Youtube would have to pay. Want to listen to Iron Priest 7 on Playback? Nope, cos Mixcloud would have to pay for every song in the show. And this is where it gets really evil. CFR PAYS to broadcast (unlike 99% of internet radio shows!!). We pay both the (proper) PPL and PRS licences (which ain't cheap!) each year, so we're okay to broadcast, and if we were our own ISP we could host the shows ourselves and be fine. But we can't afford to be our own ISP so this directive would force Mixcloud (who store our shows) and WIX (who host our site) to pay up. In other words, the publishers get paid TWICE. So it is very likely these services will cease to be provided by Wix and Mixcloud and their competitors. It also makes it unlikely that we will be able to do our Videos of the Week and Newsletter about rock music and associated events. WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT!?! The Directive doesn't become law until next year- but only a few months away. So get outraged. Complain to your MEPs, whenever you see a campaign online to raise signatures, PLEASE SIGN THEM STRAIGHT AWAY. Complain to your local MP as well and get this directive (which the EU tried to sneak through without publicity) raised in the Houses of Parliament. In other words MAKE A NOISE!!! and get this evil, unfair, greedy law amended (sadly it cannot be revoked!!!!) so that it doesn't force small independent publishers out of business, and affect OUR ability to offer a range of services and grow the station. Thank you.

Our penultimate BRS Phase II show sees the long awaited sequel to "It's Progtastic!" The playlist hasn't even been considered yet but I would expect Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, ELOY, Alan Parsons, Touchstone, Ghost. Devin Townsend, Krankschaft, Magenta, Genesis, YES, Steven Wilson, Riverside etc will all be making appearances.

Crossfire Radio (CFR) will on Wednesday the 12th September at 730pm attempt a world first broadcast that combines music with comic book interaction. As part of a 200th anniversary edition of their Wednesday Supplement magazine show, CFR will premiere the new, specially commissioned concept album by Paul Limb, The Time Fixers. As the album is played, a comic book will be released page by page in CFR's Forum and on a post in Facebook, to time with moments in the album, so that listeners can follow the story both musically and in comic book format, expanding both their understanding of what is happening, and immersing the listener in a multi-media experience. The special anniversary show, which starts at 12pm on Wednesday 12th September, is a 13 hour sci fi & horror extravaganza, bringing the best in radio drama from the 1950s to modern times, along with music with a sci fi & horror themes, including Kate Bush, Black Sabbath, Toyah, Iron Maiden, ELOY, The Alan Parsons Project and more. At 730pm, main feature, the concept album The Time Fixers by Paul Limb will begin its performance, and the comic book pages will appear in specially pinned posts in the Forum and in FB. For the CFR Forum, you can find the post to both follow the comic and comment on the show HERE. Crossfire Radio co-owner and DJ for the TWS special is the creator behind the comic book adaptation and says, "CFR's mission has always been to bring great music to listeners, and we've always made sure we make time for independent creators like Paul, and I'm particularly thrilled with this collaboration between the station and a great musician like him." He adds, "We're pretty sure nothing like this has ever been attempted before, so another first for radio experimentation comes to Crossfire." Paul Limb, composer, concept and musical performances, as well as production and mixing, is similarly thrilled to have the opportunity to see his music given prime time broadcasting. "It's my most ambitious work to date, and I can't wait to see, and hear, how it translates out there in radio-land." That's The Time Fixers by Paul Limb, on CFRXtra at 730pm on Wednesday the 12th September.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ We are doing maintenance work on both the CFR Rock and CFR Xtra servers from 2pm (Xtra at 2, Rock at an undetermined time). We have arranged for a backup play to be on air for both servers, but if you lose the stream, this means we are doing the switch overs either from or back to the servers and you will need to wait a moment and then refresh your player. I will post to say when the work is complete.

It's 250 not out folks- that's purely BRS shows, not BRS Xtras (remember them?), Showcases and Specials, just the Wednesday night slot even with the 4 or 5 months I had to take off when I contrived to have a column of computers fall on me lol. For this show I want your favourite song or album (either right now or of all time) and I will play it if I have it.

We will also play it on the first relevant live show. The form is currently on the http://www.crossfireradio.net/cfrrock page, but you can use it for either channel. In a key interview with a leading internet video channel, the wonderful Gabby Young has named TWO radio stations as being the best for new bands and artists. One was BBC Radio 6, the other... the other was CROSSFIRE RADIO!!
